Brit tennis fans fume as Amazon decides against showing Heather Watson’s US Open match

BRITISH tennis fans have been left disappointed with Amazon Prime's US Open coverage.

The internet giants purchased the exclusive UK rights to show live matches on their £79-a-year service, their first broadcast of a sporting event.

But viewers were left up in arms with the service after they decided against showing Brit Heather Watson.

Instead former world No1 Andy Murray was shown across two channels.

It was the only time they would have been able see the 26-year-old in action as she failed to end her first round hoodoo in the US.

Watson's 1-6, 6-3, 3-6, defeat against Ekaterina Makarova means she has failed to progress into the second round for the eighth consecutive tournament.

One frustrated viewer said: "@amazon where is the streaming of Heather Watson on US Open on Amazon Prime."

Another said: "Not a great start for Amazon coverage of US Open in the UK. No coverage of Heather Watson's match."

Another commented: "The absurdity of @primevideouk showing only one outside court at a time laid bare by the fact they can't show the Heather Watson match they scheduled because they somehow thought a men's match would be done by now."

The streaming service is instead showing Kyle Edmund's clash against Paolo Lorenzi.

Amazon forked out a whopping £34million to buy US Open rights from EuroSport.
