Nurmagomedov's behaviour – where he jumped out of the Octagon onto McGregor's pal Dillon Danis – has been branded "the catalyst for the ensuing chaos".

A decision on the punishments is due in December, when the pair could also be fined.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission is in charge of the meeting.

They voted unanimously to release half of Nurmagomedov's £1.5million purse.

The remaining £750,000 will continue to be withheld, pending the ongoing investigation.

Commission chair Anthony Marnell III said if he had previously had the video of the scuffle he watched at thearing, then he would have withheld McGregor's purse too.

Three of Nurmagomedov's party were arrested following the fracas but were later released, with McGregor refusing to press charges.

Both fighters are also expected to be hit with a fine.

They were initially suspended for ten days by the NSAC but now it looks like their futures will not be known until the December hearing, which both have been told they must attend in person.

The commission has the power to ban them both from fighting in the state again for life.

Nurmagomedov is expected to be banned for a longer period than McGregor – who has been suspended for a month on medical grounds.

The Russian has since been talking up the prospect of following in McGregor's shoes and fighting Floyd Mayweather.

He wants a bout at the stadium that held this year's World Cup final after calling out the retired 50-0 king.
