ANDER HERRERA has put Premier League clubs on alert – with Manchester United willing to accept a knockdown price for the contract rebel in January.

The Spanish midfielder is in the final year of his Old Trafford deal, and it is thought talks over an extension are at deadlock.

The 29-year-old ace can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs during January.

But United could be willing to accept a minimal fee of between £3million and £5m for the ex-Athletic Bilbao star.

The Red Devils are reluctant to let him leave on a free, and would like some of the £32m fee back that they paid for him.

It is understood Everton have looked at bringing Herrera in to help their push towards the Europa League this season.

An Old Trafford source said: “There has already been a lot of interest in Ander from around Europe and England.

“There’s a growing feeling here that he is ready to walk away next summer and that’s something the club don’t want.

“The club obviously want to avoid that particular scenario and are trying to compromise and get a deal done.

“He knows there’s interest in him but he has a young family and is settled in the area and likes living here.”

Herrera has also been eyed for a return by his old club Athletico Bilbao, who he left to join United for in 2014.

He is understood to be due around £2m in wages between January and the end of the season, in the region of the fee the Red Devils are looking to recoup.
