Djokovic was ill coming into the match and endured a THREE-HOUR epic with Roger Federer in the semi-finals late on Saturday evening.

Khachanov is the first Russian to win a Masters title since the controversial Nikolay Davydenko was a Shanghai winner in 2009.

And he inflicted upon the Wimbledon and US Open champion his first defeat in 23 matches.

Djokovic said: “I didn’t feel too good out there but I would like to give respect to Karen for playing a great match.
