At the peak of his bad times he was drinking up to 100 pints of beer a week as he completely fell off the rails following his shock victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

And as he prepares for his big clash with WBC champion Deontay Wilder in December, the 30-year-old admits even wife Paris thought he had blown his chance of ever fighting at the top level again.

Speaking to Showtime, Fury said: "I rang my wife up and said to me wife 'I'm coming back to boxing!', to which she replied: 'No, you're not. You're too fat.

"I was 400 pounds and counting. I'm stood here today at 259/260lbs.

"In England, we have pints of beer. It's like a big thing, I used to drink 20 of them like four or five times a week.

"This belly was out here, this back was out here. I had wings on me.

"I'm disfigured for life. I've got stretch marks all over my body."

Fury has fought just twice since his return to the ring and is taking a huge step up in class when he takes on American star Wilder in Los Angeles on December 1.

He has been training hard in the States in the build-up to the clash, and now looks back to the kind of physical condition he was in before his dramatic downfall.

"The air is clean, thin, cold, it's very hard training. I'm enjoying every minute and it's going to prepare me well.

"I have had great sparring, I am getting great work and have other guys coming in next week. I am preparing very well."
