Alvaro Morata to seal Atletico Madrid transfer today as striker ends Chelsea hell

ALVARO MORATA is reportedly edging closer to ending his nightmare at Chelsea with a move to Atletico Madrid to be confirmed imminently.

The Spanish striker has been left out of the Blues' last two matchday squads with boss Maurizio Sarri repeatedly overlooking the 26-year-old.

While he hasn't found the back of the net in the Premier League since he netted a double against Crystal Palace on November 4.

He has scored 24 goals for the West Londoners in 72 games, with Chelsea set to make a £16.5million loss on the ex-Real Madrid man.

Morata was signed for a then club-record fee of £65m from Los Blancos in 2017, but is expected to join Atletico on an initial six-month loan with the obligation to pay £48.5m in the summer.

SunSport reported yesterday that Morata had 'completed his switch' to return to the club he played for during his youth.

And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the move has been finalised, he tweeted: "Morata from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid is a done deal. Confirmed. Here we go!"

It is believed that the two-time Champions League winner has even agreed a pay-cut at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Chelsea will replace Morata with Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain, who is currently on loan at AC Milan.

Milan will then nab Polish international Krzysztof Piatek from Serie A rivals Genoa for £30.9m.
