ANDY MURRAY has served up trouble with Argentine tennis players by tweeting to mock their nation's World Cup failure against Croatia.

But the cheeky Brit got an unexpectedly fierce return.

The former world No 1 knows the hopes of Lionel Messi and Co are at breaking point after a 3-0 loss to Croatia left them with just one point from two group games.

And Murray was as quick to troll his South American playing pals as Croatia were to punish Argentina's dodgy defending.

He tweeted to ask Buenos Aires-born Diego Schwartzman: "Are you happy you travelled all the way to watch that?"

But that jibe earned Murray a raised-finger emoji from 34-year-old Juan 'Pico' Monaco, who also comes from the Argentine capital.

Pico's response delighted social media – with Murray's army of Twitter fans amused by the Argentinian's robust reply.

One fan labelled Murray a "savage bitch" but added a laughing emoji.

And another said: "Needed that laugh."

Hibs fan Murray, 31, is in good spirits himself after a long-awaited return from injury.

He ran Aussie Nick Kyrgios far closer than most had predicted, losing 6-2 6-7 5-7 at Queen's on Tuesday.

Now Murray is hoping he will be strong enough to mount a serious bid for his third Wimbledon title next month.

SW19 was in fact where his last victory of any sort came, against Frenchman Benoit Paire in last year's fourth round.
