Arsenal trolled by Man Utd fans over FA Cup win of 2011… with a team containing SEVEN defenders

MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been trolling Arsenal after reminding them of their 2011 FA Cup clash – where they won with a team boasting SEVEN defenders.

The Gunners travelled to Old Trafford in March that year for their cup quarter-final showdown with high hopes.

That year there had even been talk of a famous treble, with the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup still on.

Arsenal followers were buoyed further when Sir Alex Ferguson revealed his starting XI – boasting one of the weirdest midfields in the history of Manchester United.

With Edwin van der Sar between the sticks and a back-four of Wes Brown, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, the team starting fairly strongly.

However, with the Da Silva twins – Rafael and Fabio – joined by Darron Gibson and John O'Shea in midfield, things quickly took a turn for the worse.

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez up front somewhat redeemed things, but the team looked ripe for the beating.

But it turned out to be yet another tactical masterstroke from Fergie – who left Paul Scholes on the bench – as they ran out 2-0 winners.

Fabio got United off to a flying start in the first half an hour after poking home the game's first after Hernandez had his header saved by Manuel Almunia.

Rooney made it 2-0 early in the second half after he turned home yet another saved-Chicharito effort.

United's bench that day was arguably stronger than their starting XI, with Scholes joined by the likes of Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia and a young Josh King.

However, it's worth noting Arsenal were hardly at their strongest that day either, with Johan Djourou joined by the likes of Denilson and Kieran Gibbs that day.

Now, ahead of tonight's clash, United fans have taken their chance to remind Gooners of the bizarre afternoon.
