Baseball star Justin Verlander jokingly charged $1million by LA restaurant because he beat Dodgers in World Series

HOUSTON ASTRO’S pitcher Justin Verlander was handed a whopping $1million lunch bill in Los Angeles last week.

Verlander was given the hefty tab from a waiter at the swanky Cabana Cafe in Beverly Hills.

His bill included $30 (£23.30) pancakes, a $42 salad (£32.70) and $1million (£780,000) for "Dodger Killer."

The waiter was clearly still reeling from Verlander guiding the Astros to victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series last year.

The series went to a dramatic final game with Houston coming out on top to win their first ever championship.

Verlander saw the funny side of the bill and revealed afterwards his meal was on the house.

He said: “The manager came over, and we ended up laughing about it.

"They actually ended up comping the meal.

“Everyone was talking about how expensive the pancakes were and the salad. It was comped. It worked out well for both sides."

Verlander's side currently lead the American League West after three games are in LA for a three-game series against the Angels.

The 35-year-old who is making £21.8m this season, has only faced the Dodgers three times during the regular season over his career making 27 strikeouts.
