FRENCH tennis star Benoit Paire left fans disgusted (and two with a souvenir) after smashing three £200 rackets in a violent outburst during Citi Open defeat.

The 29-year-old, ranked 55th in the world, lost to Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in the first round of the Washington-based tournament.

Paire had fought back from a set down to level the best-of-three tie.

But he could not contain his anger as Baghdatis took a 5-2 lead in the decider.

After falling to the ground, Paire smashed his Babolat Pure Aero racket on the hard court four times, before throwing it away.

As the Frenchman walked over to his bench, he kicked out at another, before launching that one across the surface.

Meanwhile, a ball kid had to retrieve the rackets before the final game of the match.

Baghdatis quickly dispatched of his opponent, but it only resulted in a third racket taking a beating from Paire.

The Frenchman's actions did not go down well with the crowd as he was booed off the court.

Two lucky spectators managed to get their hands on some souvenirs, taking home the damaged equipment.

A few saw the funny side, but many on Twitter were appalled by Paire's meltdown.

There were calls for the World No.55 to be banned, while others compared him to fellow hothead Nick Kyrgios.
