Unlike Liverpool striker Mane, whose hand op could keep him out for just days, you might have thought Vunipola has little choice but to ease off for a while.

But the 25-year-old is already chomping at the bit – despite a post-surgery look for which there was even a video warning.

In his diary, posted by Channel 4 Sport, Vunipola reveals he went for an operation, explaining: "in the same hospital as Sadio Mane had surgery actually – he was the day after me".

And after returning home on Wednesday morning the 25-year-old was initially, he added: "[I'm] lying around, just kind of getting me head around the fact I'm injured again".

But he also explained he had to get on with a list of chores.

Vunipola said: "Today's jobs are I have to do the vacuuming and so on..

"I'll show you some of that, a bit of dusting maybe, but other than that that's probably the maximum of my cleaning abilities and probably doing the bed."

The Sydney-born star is shown making the bed, rather impressively, with just his left arm.

But that homely scene contrasted with wince-inducing images of Vunipola having his bandages taken off.

His video diary flashed up the alert: "WARNING – if you're squeamish look away now."

And then it showed the dressings, blood-stained deep for several inches down his left forearm, being slowly peeled off.

Yet Vunipola is determined to begin his cautious road back to fitness within days.

He said: "Next week's a new week when I can hopefully start doing light CV (cardio-vascular) work and hopefully some weights on my lower body and my right shoulder as well.."

That is the just the attitude Red Rose boss Eddie Jones would hope and expect from his bulldozing kingpin, who he hopes can make the Six Nations opener in Ireland on February 2.
