The Bruins and Blackhawks meet in the 11th NHL Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind. on New Year’s Day.

Boston (21-14-4) head into Tuesday’s marquee matchup in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 46 points, just two points behind the Sabres for third. However, the Bruins do hold the first wild-card spot in the East by just one point over the Canadiens.

The Blackhawks (15-20-6) have seen a downturn in recent years since their domination earlier in the decade. Chicago’s 36 points are tied for the fourth-lowest point total in the league and place it second to last in the Central Division.

Tuesday will also mark the Blackhawks’ fourth appearance in the Winter Classic and their first since 2017 when they lost to the Blues 4-1 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Chicago is 0-3 all time in the Winter Classic.

Boston’s last appearance came in 2016 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. when it lost to Montreal 5-1. The Bruins only other appearance in the Winter Classic was a 2-1 overtime victory against the Flyers at Fenway Park in Boston.
