Canelo Alvarez set for trilogy fight against Gennady Golovkin with T-Mobile Arena booked for May

CANELO ALVAREZ will fight Gennady Golovkin for a third time, confirmed his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

The Mexican is back in action this weekend when he fights Brit Rocky Fielding in a clash many expect him to sail through.

But after a contentious draw and a victory that was just as questionable, many people believe Canelo owes GGG another shot.

And it's a fight De La Hoya is keen to make.

Speaking to TMZ, the former six-weight world champ said: "Is he gonna fight GGG again? Yeah, whenever we say he's gonna fight him again.

"We call the shots now. Canelo beat him so if he's gonna fight him it's gonna be when we say."

The boxing Hall of Famer also revealed that he has booked the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for Canelo to headline on May 4 – but refused to say whether that opponent would be Golovkin.

He added: "I haven't even spoken to GGG, I haven't even spoken to his handlers.

"I have that date for Canelo and that's it."

Canelo beat Golovkin on a majority decision in September to become the new WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight world champion.

It also handed Golovkin his first ever defeat as a professional.

Alvarez was the defensive counter-attacker in 2017, dodging and weaving around the punches of GGG.

This time around, Canelo went for it, forcing the world champion to fight on the back foot.

Even a gash to the eye in the early part of the fight could not stop him, as he continued to attack.

While one judge scored it a draw, the other two were in favour of Canelo.

GGG thought he had won it, storming off out of the ring and down the tunnel before he could make a post-fight interview.
