Celtics guard Jabari Bird was arrested Friday night in Boston for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting an unidentified person in a domestic dispute, according to multiple reports.
Bird, 24, is reportedly being guarded at a local hospital as he undergoes evaluation. The alleged victim is being treated for injuries at a different hospital.
The Celtics issued a statement saying, “We are aware of the incident involving Jabari Bird and are taking it very seriously. We are actively gathering information and will reserve further comment at this time.”
Bird is scheduled to appear in court Monday on charges of assault and battery, strangulation and kidnapping.
He was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft and signed a two-year deal worth $3 million in July.
Last season, Bird split time between the Celtics and their G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. He averaged 3.0 points, 0.6 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 13 games for Boston.
