Chelsea new boy Kepa reveals Liverpool legend Pepe Reina convinced him to join Premier League as he trains with team-mates for first time

CHELSEA goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has revealed that Liverpool legend Pepe Reina helped convince him to move to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old sealed a world-record move from Atheltic Bilbao to Stamford Bridge yesterday – joining for a fee of £71.6million to replace Thibaut Courtois – and took part in his first training session on Thursday.

Kepa – who has been capped once for the Spanish national team – has penned a seven-year deal with the FA Cup holders.

The 2012 Euro U19 winner was unveiled to the world's media earlier today, where it was claimed that the Reds hero played a role in Kepa's move.

Chelsea tweeted: "Kepa says he thinks he can adapt to Maurizio Sarri's style of play and he finds it very attractive.

"He reveals Pepe Reina endorsed it from his time playing under Sarri at Napoli, and Kepa adds he has experience of a similar style from playing for Spain."

While the Blues also added: "Kepa says he heard great things about Chelsea from our Spanish players he has played alongside in the national team.

"He adds that we have a very exciting season ahead of us, and he is excited for the next step in his career."

Addressing the media, Kepa said: "I am incredibly happy to be here. It’s a great challenge to me and means a lot. It’s a great step forward in my career.

"Some players take more time to adapt, some less. I hope I will be able to adjust and adapt as soon as possible.

"I realise the game in England is different, but I have been given fantastic references by other Spanish players in this league.

"Over the next seven years, I expect to achieve a great growth, personally and collectively, and I hope we will win many, many titles."

Arrizabalaga was included in Spain's 23-man World Cup squad in Russia, but failed to make a single appearance.

Fellow new boy Mateo Kovacic, who joined on loan from Real Madrid as part of the Courtois deal, also trained with his new team-mates on Thursday.

Eden Hazard remains in SW6 for now – but Real Madrid are able to sign the superstar until the end of the month.
