Clark Kent, 10, beats Michael Phelps swimming record by a whole second

Clark Kent, a 10-year-old swimmer dubbed ‘Superman’ has beaten a record held by pool legend Michael Phelps for 23 years.

The American icon, with 23 Olympic gold medals, set 39 world records before retiring but a junior best for the 100-metre butterfly has just been smashed.

Clark Kent, 10, beats Michael Phelps swimming record by a whole second

In 1995, at the Far West International Championship in California, Phelps set the bar with a time close to 1min 10secs.

But over two decades later, Kent dived in to shave over a second off over a second with a stunning time of 1min 9.38secs.

The wunderkid won all seven of the races he entered and told CBS it’s all down to positive thinking.

He said: “If I have positive thoughts, then positive things will happen.

“I love swimming because I have a lot of people supporting me, and my coaches are always there for me and my parents are always there.”

And the swim-sensation even landed a ‘well-done’ message from the 33-year-old Olympic legend he dream of emulating.

Phelps wrote on Twitter: “Big congrats to Clark Kent for smashing that meet record! Keep it up dude."
