Eddie Hearn fears Deontay Wilder is bluffing over Anthony Joshua fight ‘agreement’ – after American got wind Alexander Povetkin was being lined up

EDDIE HEARN fears that Deontay Wilder is just BLUFFING about wanting to face Anthony Joshua in a megafight this year.

WBC heavyweight champ Wilder declared late on Monday night he has finally agreed a deal to take on WBA, WBO and IBF king AJ in Britain this autumn.

But Hearn says Wilder might have jumped the gun – as he has not even sent the American puncher a contract yet.

The promoter is currently putting the finishing touches on a deal for Joshua to face his mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in September, before they attempt to collar Wilder in 2019.

Hearn said: “Wilder and his team have obviously heard that we are likely to fight Povetkin in September so I don't know whether this was panic or bluster.

“We won't know whether it is for real or bluster until we send them a contract. That's what we are going to have to do.

“Our guys are already working on the contract and they will certainly have it by the end of the week, probably before.

“We will then find out what is real. It makes me sceptical because of the way they are handling this and playing it out.

“I can't ignore the fact that he says he has agreed the offer we sent them four weeks ago.

“We just don't know if that is for real or a bluff until we send a contract.”

Deontay Wilder accepts Anthony Joshua’s £37m fight terms with bout set for UK in September or October and return match in America

Hearn had initially hoped to stage the showdown at Wembley in September but it appears as though the apparent breakthrough in negotiations with Wilder has come too late for that.

Now it is likely that Joshua will be headed back to Cardiff's Principality Stadium for the third time running because it is the only major stadium with a roof capable of guarding against winter weather.

Depending on pay-per-view numbers, the fight could generate around £60m which the fighters will split – with IBF, WBA and WBO king Joshua pocketing the lion's share.

But Hearn has warned Wilder that he risks missing out on the fight altogether with the clock ticking on his offer.

He said: “If there is a chance to fight Wilder next we will explore it, but we are running out of time.

“I don't want to be at a stage that Joshua is messed around and before you know it he may not fight again in 2018.

“This was an offer made nearly four weeks ago. We don't know whether this is a saving face move, an acceptance but we are very interested.

“If it is an acceptance, it's great news for everybody.”
