France will host Uruguay for the third time in their history on Tuesday, but Les Bleus will have to break a 33-year scoring drought against this South American foe if they’re to emerge on top.
La Celeste lost 2-0 at the Parc des Princes in Paris back in 1985, when a France team led by Michel Platini won the first edition of the Artemio Franchi Trophy (or the Intercontinental Championship).
It was to be the end of their scoring against Uruguay, however—or at least as long as the home soil is concerned. Four of the eight overall meetings between these two teams have taken place at World Cups, the most recent of which came at this year’s finals in Russia when Didier Deschamps’ men won 2-0 in a quarterfinal clash in Nizhny Novgorod.
France has since become world champions and gained in confidence on the international scale, but a disappointing record against Uruguay suggests Tuesday’s task will be a tall one, which you can stream live on fuboTV.

The major worry for Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez is the absence of center-back trio Diego Godin, Jose Maria Gimenez and Sebastian Coates. Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez are pillars in the attack, but France should come out on top of a scoring contest should one develop.
Les Bleus fell 2-0 to the Netherlands in their last UEFA Nations League game and thus lost out on a place in the finals, meaning we could see some experimentation under the friendly setting on Tuesday.
This match will represent the first time these two teams have met at any venue on more than one occasion. Their only previous trip to the Stade de France was 10 years ago and provided the first of their successive stalemates in French territory.
Despite the current deficit in pedigree between the two squads, Uruguay can also take heart in their equal all-time record opposite France, with both teams taking two wins apiece and drawing four times.
Those four draws—all stalemates—took place back-to-back between 2002 and 2012. Thankfully for neutrals, both matchups between France and Uruguay since then have produced at least one goal, signaling a potential change in the tide.
