French Open 2018: Alexander Zverev reaches first Grand Slam quarter-final and celebrates with new best mate from Yorkshire

ALEXANDER ZVEREV reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final – and celebrated with his new best mate from Yorkshire.

Radio reporter Jonathan Pinfield has been a break-out star in Paris after Zverev took a liking to his accent.

Pinfield requested the German if he was falling in love with Roland Garros and vice versa.

And the No2 seed replied: “I hope so. I fall in love with your accent extra each single day.

"That's what I'm falling in love with.”

Zverev gained his THIRD 5-set match in a row, four-6 7-6 2-6 6-three 6-three towards Russia’s Karen Khachanov, to succeed in the final eight.

Requested he was involved concerning the results of such lengthy matches, Zverev stated: “Psychological, undoubtedly not, as a result of, you understand, I'm within the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam.

“When you're mentally fatigued, then one thing is fallacious with you.

"Bodily, clearly it's not straightforward to play, you realize, again to again to again 5-set matches, however I’ll handle it by some means.”

Zverev will play No7 seed Dominic Thiem within the final eight after the Austrian beat Kei Nishikori in 4 units.
