Astros outfielder George Springer is close to returning from the thumb injury that’s kept him out of action since August 6.
According to The Athletic, Springer has been taking batting practice and is on pace to return Friday when first eligible.
Springer was hitting .250 with 19 home runs and 58 RBIs before his injury. He also has 74 runs scored and six stolen bases.
The Astros have been plagued by the injury bug this season, with Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Lance McCullers Jr., Brian McCann and Springer all serving time on the DL.
The injuries have caught up to Houston in the form of four straight loses. The defending World Series champs hold a slim two-game lead over the Athletics in the American League West.
