Trevor Bauer will get a precautionary X-ray after he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Jose Abreu during Saturday’s game against the White Sox.
Bauer was forced to leave the game in the seventh inning, but manager Terry Francona doesn’t think the hit will have too much of an impact on Cleveland’s star pitcher.
“He’s getting a precautionary X-ray,” Francona said after the game, via cleveland.com. “[Trainer] James [Quinlan] thinks he just has a bruise. He got hit pretty hard. Just to cover everything, we’ll get an X-ray, and he’s doing that right now. But I think we feel like he is OK.”
The Indians also announced slugger Edwin Encarnacion would be placed on the 10-day disabled list as he is dealing with a biceps injury.
“We’re going to put Edwin on the disabled list,” Francona said, per ESPN. “He got his hand X-rayed and it came back actually really good, and clean. So we’re pleased about that. There is some swelling in the bicep. It’s not bad at all. I think between the wrist and the bicep, we just thought letting him come back and be Edwin made the most sense.”
Infielder Yandy Diaz will be recalled from Triple-A to take Encarnacion’s spot.
