Ivan Mauger dead at seventy eight: Speedway legend passes away in Australia after losing battle with dementia

SPEEDWAY legend Ivan Mauger has died at the age of seventy eight after an extended battle with dementia.

The six-time world champ handed away on Monday after a struggle with the debilitating sickness.

Mauger rode for a number of English golf equipment throughout his stellar profession spanning 24 years, together with Wimbledon Dons, Newcastle Diamonds, Belle Vue Aces and Exeter Falcons.

His daughter Debbie Pritchard confirmed the news.

She tweeted: "You knew him as 'Ivan' & I actually respect that I actually do, I used to be so fortunate & privileged to know him as Dad, how fortunate all of us have been.

"Such a tremendous life lived to the max. Debbie #legend #WorldChampion."

Speedway GB stated: "We’re deeply saddened by tonight's news that Ivan has handed away.

"He was a pioneer in professionalism forward of his time.

"The ideas of us all at the BSPA are with Ivan's household at this unhappy time."

Regardless of spending most of his profession in the UK, Mauger was nicely revered in his residence nation of New Zealand.

He gained the Halberg Award in 1977 and 1979, an enormous achievement in the nation the place rugby union is king.
