In an update on Instagram on Thursday, Thomas said how Teddy "went downhill pretty fast" alongside pictures of the baby with tubes in an incubator.

But the 44-year-old remains upbeat that his baby will pull through and was quick to thank the NHS for saving his boys life.

He wrote: "Since my last post unfortunately the little fella went downhill pretty fast but slowly he’s seems to be getting stronger although will be here a while yet.

"I can’t say thanks enough not only to close friends and family who have been great support but also strangers on social media who’s messages have given me faith that he will pull through.

"Although he’s not totally out of trouble yet a HUGE thank you to the great NHS doctors, nurses and midwifes who do everything in their power to help the sick.

"People are often quick to criticise our health service but trust me they’re saving my boys life and I’m eternally grateful.

"I’ve met some truly wonderful families who unfortunately are going through similar journeys here and my heart goes out to them all.

"Although some days are dark try to believe in the power of positive thinking, keep strong, keep believing & keep fighting."

In one of the series of images, Teddy is wearing a white hat with the words "Daddy & Me" stitched onto the front.

It is unclear who the identity of the mother is just yet.

Unsurprisingly, the post was greeted by hundreds of comments wishing Thomas and the mother love and support.

Thomas was awarded and MBE in 1998 for his services to sport, and was a contestant on hit BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

Sadly his performance on the dancing competition didn't go very well and he was the first celebrity to be eliminated.
