A spectator needed to get stiches after Kevin Stadler’s broken club hit the fan in the head.
Stadler was playing at the WinCo Foods Portland Open on Friday when he slammed his club to the ground in frustration at the 15th hole. The club broke and flew into the crowd, where it struck the fan in the head.
According to Web.com official Orlando Pope, the fan needed six stitches and Stadler felt terrible about the incident.
“It was a very freakish accident,” Pope told ESPN. “Kevin is devastated. He had trouble trying to finish the round. He was quite worried and felt so bad.”
Stadler missed the cut in the last regular-season event of the Web.com Tour schedule. He as four Web.com tour victories, but hasn’t made a PGA start in two years due to a broken bone in his hand.
