And new Elland Road boss Marcelo Bielsa may now offer a deal to the 26-year-old, who played every minute of Iran's Russia campaign.

During the summer, Carlos Queiroz's side almost pipped Spain to a place in the second round – but fell agonisingly short.

Brighton held talks with Pouraliganji last month before signing his national team-mate, winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

The defender then came close to joining Turks Trabzonspor, but was unable to agree a deal.

Reports in Tehran now claim Championship high-flyers Leeds want to sign him as they seek to build on their impressive start to the season.

Bielsa's men have won both their opening league games, against Stoke and Derby, as well as overcoming Bolton in the Carabao Cup.

Pouraliganji joined Al-Sadd from Chinese outfit Tianjin Teda in 2016, and helped them win a domestic cup treble the following year.

He began his senior career with home-country club Naft Tehran, and has won 30 national caps – scoring two goals.
