Hamilton called the track "a snake pit" with "crowds full of hate and negativity", as they cheered on the drivers of the Italian team.

And he made himself even more unpopular with this win, which moves him an incredible 30 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' championship.

Hamilton, who started third, was involved in a first lap incident with Vettel at the second chicane.

The reigning world champion moved round the outside of the German and held his line and Vettel had no room to move.

It caused Vettel to whack into Hamilton's wheels sending him into a spin, dropping him down to 18th place and needing a new nose and front wing.

Hamilton was cleared of any wrong-doing by the stewards as he enjoyed a tussle with Raikkonen for the win.

At one point he took the lead before the Finn hit back with an excellent overtake, again happening at the second chicane.

With Raikkonen and Hamilton stopping for fresh tyres, it was Valtteri Bottas's job to lead the race, holding up the Ferrari man in the process.

The dirty, turbulent air which ran behind his Mercedes damaged Raikkonen's tyres and on lap 45 Hamilton saw his chance at Turn One and made it stick.

He breezed into the lead and held on to record his six win of the season and giving him a big buffer over Vettel.

The German had to settle for fourth place as Max Verstappen was hit with a five-second time penalty for clattering onto Bottas, who was third.
