Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to play in Roman Weidenfeller’s Borussia Dortmund testimonial

LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp will make a sensational playing return – by taking part in Roman Weidenfeller's testimonal, according to reports.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss will take to the field when his former charge celebrates the end of 16 years at the German club on Spetember 7, as reported by Bundesliga.com.

They announced that Klopp would play when BVB faced Liverpool in the International Champions Cup in USA last week.

The 51-year-old coach managed Weidenfeller, 37, for seven years, with the pair lifting the German first division title twice.

He last played in 2001 for Mainz, when subsequently retired to become their manager.

The fixture for the former Germany international will see a BVB All-Stars side come up against Roman

and friends at the Signal Iduna Park, bringing an end to his 452-match Dortmund career.

Weidenfeller will become just the seventh player in history to be honoured with a testimonial.

Former sporting director and Champions League winner Michael Zorc is among the others to have been rewarded with the special match.

The testimonial in September will feature a host of well-known ex-footballers including former Germany internationals Torsten Frings, and Michael Ballack.

Sven and Lars Bender, and ex-Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl will also be in attendance.
