Macclesfield axe boss Mark Yates with team rooted to bottom of Football League

Macclesfield have sacked manager Mark Yates.

The club are rooted to the bottom of the Football League and are on a 12-match winless start to the season.

The Silkmen were promoted back to the Football League in the summer but were rocked when John Askey quit to take the manager's job at Shrewsbury.

Yates was appointed but has taken just four points from a possible 36 so far, leaving the club four points adrift at the foot of the League Two table.

The club said in a statement: "Mark was brought in to the club during the summer and despite a plethora injuries to deal with, as well as an enormous amount of bad luck on occasions, fought gallantly in a bid to lift our league position to where we all want it to be."
