The Nationals have signed free-agent reliever Trevor Rosenthal, the team announced Saturday.
Terms call for a $7 million salary in 2019 with a conditional option in 2020, according to mlb.com.
Rosenthal, 28, was a mainstay in the Cardinals’ bullpen until needing Tommy John surgery in August 2017. He didn’t pitch in 2018 while rehabbing.
If healthy, Rosenthal helps fill a need for the Nationals, whose bullpen had a middle-of-the-pack 4.05 ERA in 2018.
An All-Star in 2015, Rosenthal had his two best seasons in 2014 and 2015 with 45 and 48 saves, respectively.
In six MLB seasons, Rosenthal has a 2.99 ERA and 121 saves with 435 strikeouts over 325 innings.
