Devante Smith-Pelly will remain in Washington, D.C.
The right wing agreed to a one-year deal to stay with the Capitals, TSN reported. Smith-Pelly wanted to stay with the Capitals and reportedly turned down better offers to do so.
NHL.com reported Smith-Pelly will receive $1 million in his year-long deal.
According to the report, the Capitals are tight on salary cap space and could only offer Smith-Pelly so much. Smith-Pelly wanted a better offer, but was willing to take the smaller salary to remain in D.C.
Smith-Pelly scored seven big goals during the Caps’ Stanley Cup Final run, including the game-tying goal in Game 5 of the championship series, which propelled them to victory.
