UK Anti-Doping have now confirmed his ban.

Levine has been a massive part of Team GB's 4x400m team for nearly a decade and raced at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Levine, who has won nine world and European medals, initially tested positive for the banned substance just before Christmas last year.

Clenbuterol helps asthma sufferers but is on the World Anti-Doping Agency banned list as it helps burn fat, build muscle and improve athletic performance.

Levine had claimed that contaminated supplements had been responsible for testers finding clenbuterol in an out-of-competition sample.

Levine was hoping to rebuild his career after a serious motorbike accident at the start of last year.

He had been riding with team-mate James Ellington when the pair were hit by a car in Spain in January 2017.

UKAD chief executive Nicole Sapstead said: "All athletes must adhere to the principle of strict liability, and are solely responsible for any substances found in their system.

"Mr Levine is an elite athlete, who has competed at the Olympic Games, European and World Championships, and has received significant anti-doping education throughout his career.

"It is up to role models such as Mr Levine to uphold the highest standards when it comes to anti-doping, ensuring they check all supplements thoroughly and are 100 per cent certain they know that what they are consuming is not prohibited."
