Mike Green could miss the start of the Red Wings’ season due to a virus that has left him fatigued throughout camp.
“He’s got a virus that attacked his liver, so he’s seen an infectious disease person today and we should know more here in the next little bit,” coach Jeff Blashill told reporters Friday, via mlive.com. “I don’t know how long he’s going to be out. I don’t know the totality of it. He’s got a virus.”
Earlier in the day, general manager Ken Holland said Green had been sent to a specialist after experiencing low energy levels during workouts. He has not played in a preseason game.
Green, 32, was an All-Star last season but saw his campaign end in March due to a herniated disc that eventually required surgery.
He re-signed with the Red Wings in June, getting a two-year deal worth $10.75 million.
