For the Rockies and Cubs, 162 games boils down to one game — and then one more game.
The Cubs and Rockies were handed losses in Monday’s tiebreaker games, with the Brewers and Dodgers going on to win the NL Central and NL West, respectively. Chicago and Colorado fight to keep their World Series hopes alive with a win on Tuesday night in the NL Wild Card game, from Wrigley Field in Chicago.
The Cubs send Jon Lester to the hill in his third career winner-take-all game, with his third team (Red Sox, A’s, Cubs). Lester has turned in another good season for North Siders, pitching to a 3.32 ERA in 32 starts this season.
The Rockies counter Lester with Kyle Freeland, who finished the regular season with the lowest ERA in Rockies franchise history. The Rox lost their shot at the NL West crown after losing to the Dodgers 5-2 on Monday’s NL West tiebreaker game.
One team advances. One team gets to go home and enjoy pumpkin spice lattes while watching October baseball.
