For a moment Sunday afternoon, it appeared as though Team USA had a real shot to pull off an incredible comeback on the final day of Ryder Cup play. Unfortunately for the Americans, that moment didn’t last long.

Team Europe finished strong to reclaim the title, preventing Team USA from winning on European soil for the first time since 1993. Justin Thomas, Tony Finau and Webb Simpson helped cut the lead to one point, but the United States didn’t have much to offer late. Tiger Woods lost a crucial point to John Rahm, and Phil Mickelson’s shot into the water on No. 16 clinched the win for Europe.
