The Lakers have contacted the Spurs about acquiring Kawhi Leonard via trade this week, but San Antonio is not exactly taking their offer and working with it.

According to ESPN, the Spurs essentially slammed the door in the Lakers’ face when they initiated conversations.

Leonard went public with his trade request last week asking to be dealt to Los Angeles and preferably to the Lakers over the Clippers.

Many pundits have publically stated the Spurs would likely not want to directly help the Lakers get better, and it would appear they have actively “shut the door” on Los Angeles’ proposals.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Spurs are open to trade discussions, but they are not heavily pushing for a deal at this point.

Multiple outlets reported earlier this week, head coach Gregg Popovich flew to San Diego to meet with Leonard and attempt to mend fences.

However, according to ESPN, Leonard has actively made it difficult for the Spurs to contact him at this point and actually had someone else in the room with him when Popovich met with the star forward.

Leonard is a two-time All-Star and was the NBA Finals MVP in 2014-15.
