Steve Yzerman is stepping away from his role as general manager for the Lightning, according to multiple reports.
The Athletic reported former assistant GM Julien BriseBois is expected to take over.
The team has yet to confirm the news but has scheduled a press conference for a “major announcement” Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
Yzerman, 53, was hired by the Lightning as GM in 2010 and has one year remaining on his contract with Tampa Bay.
Before taking on an executive role, Yzerman spent his entire NHL playing career from 1983 to 2006 with the Red Wings and helped Detroit win three Stanley Cups between 1997 and 2002. He was later inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009.
The Lightning made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015, but have struggled to make it back.
