The Indians may be without one of their best starting pitchers for the remainder of the regular season.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Friday that Bauer, a candidate for the American League Cy Young this season, will miss 4-6 weeks due to the stress fracture in his right leg.

Cleveland entered Friday’s action with a 12-game lead over the Twins in the AL Central. Bauer is 12-6 with a 2.22 ERA and 214 strikeouts in just 166 innings pitched, so he will be missed in the rotation.

With Bauer out, 23-year-old Shane Bieber (6-3, 4.37 ERA) could see an extended run in the rotation.
