Tiger Woods in new injury scare as he reveals he has been battling through ankle pain

TIGER WOODS is at the centre of a new injury scare after revealing he has been playing with "sore" ankles for "months".

The 14-time Major champion's latest admission is further evidence he will likely never reach 100 per cent full fitness.

Woods, 42, won his first tournament in five years at September's Tour Championship after battling back from make-or-break spinal fusion surgery.

But he was spotted walking gingerly after flopping to a one-over 73 in the first round of his Hero World Challenge event in the Bahamas.

Asked about the state of his ankles, Woods said: "I've struggled with my ankles over the last few months. Still the same issues.

"They've just been sore for months. Just wear and tear."

Woods' four back surgeries are the most well documented but he has had significant problems with his lower half too.

He suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his right ankle in 2008 and injured it again several times the following year.

In 2008 he won the US Open with a ruptured ACL in his left leg and a double stress fracture in his tibia.

Three years later came an Achilles strain in his left ankle and a recurrence of the same issue the following year, forcing him to pull out of the Players Championship in May.

Woods admitted he was exhausted at the Ryder Cup, where he did not win a single point in four matches.

And he looks desperate for the year to end after struggling in the first round at his own event.

He said: "I didn't quite feel comfortable with my game even though I drove it great.

"I didn't quite feel comfortable and just didn't quite hit the ball close enough or give myself a lot of looks at it."
