Tyson Fury will be the number one heavyweight ahead of Anthony Joshua if he beats Deontay Wilder claims David Haye

TYSON FURY will knock Anthony Joshua off top spot in the heavyweight division if he beats Deontay Wilder for his WBC belt.

The pair of giants clash on December 1 at the Staples Center in L.A with the 30-year-old Gypsy King fighting for the one strap he has never owned.

AJ has the WBO, WBA and IBF belts but ex-heavyweight champ David Haye says the British golden boy will be knocked off his perch if his undefeated tormentor-in-chief wins the famous green strap.

A Fury win over the 40-0 Alabama slugger would still leave him trailing 3-1 to the 28-year-old in terms of current titles. But Haye, 37, says there would only be one ruler.

He said: “If Fury can somehow manage to walk away with that green belt then he was the undisputed champion when he had the WBA, WBO, IBF titles and he has added the WBC title.

“So he would have won all the belts and never lost any, so there will be strong arguments that he is the No 1 in the division, if he can beat Deontay Wilder and it’s a big if."

Fury shocked the world when he brought Wladimir Klitchko’s 11-year reign to an end in Dusseldorf in 2015, only to relinquish them a year later due to personal problems.

It was a boxing clinic that left the Ukrainian legend bamboozled but Haye – who has sparred Wilder dozens of times – says even a repeat of that Germany performance will not enough to beat the hardest hitting man in boxing.

Haye said: “Wilder has been in two training camps with me and I would say that he has been, by far, the hardest single-punching fighter I have ever been in the ring with, fighting and sparring.

“With his right hand, from the first round of the first spar, I knew I had to switch on.

“I realised this guy has a different type of power and I have to be on it 100 per cent.

“We had some great rounds of sparring, dozens of rounds, and I really highly rate him.

“Tyson Fury is going to need to box way better than he did before. I believe the Tyson Fury that beat Wladimir Klitschko isn’t good enough to beat Deontay Wilder.”
