U.S. Open leaderboard 2018: Highlights from Round 1 at Shinnecock Hills

The golf season’s second major has arrived with the 2018 U.S. Open in Shinnecock Hills. And for the first time since 2015, the U.S. Open leaderboard includes three-time winner Tiger Woods.

Woods, whose last major win was the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, has cracked the top 100 in the world rankings during his return from a fourth back surgery since 2014. But Tiger is still looking for his first win on Tour since 2013.

He’ll have his work cut out for him at Shinnecock Hills in what is sure to be a grueling tournament with a loaded field. That includes Brooks Koepka, who won last year’s U.S. Open at Erin Hills with a record-tying score of 16 under.

Seen a couple of these today. …

What. A. Shot.

Holing out for birdie? Nice.

Making shots like these could be the difference at the U.S. Open:

Phil Mickelson with his first birdie of the day:

Couldn’t sink the shot, but on a day like today, you’ll take great shots where you can get them:

Scott Piercy drains a birdie putt from about 80 feet away!

No one said this was going to be easy.
