The Nationals appeared on their way to a victory over the Cubs on Sunday night. Until they weren’t.
Washington led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth. But, infielder David Bote stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and delivered a grand slam to give Chicago a walk-off, 4-3 victory.

Jason Heyward started the Cubs rally with a one-out single and Nationals reliever Ryan Madson followed by hitting Albert Almora Jr. with a pitch. Kyle Schwarber popped out before Madson hit Willson Contreras to load the bases, setting up Bote’s game-winning blast.
Cubs starter Cole Hamels allowed one hit and one run in seven innings on the mound. Ace Max Scherzer threw seven scoreless innings and struck out 11 for Washington.
The win moved the Cubs to 68-49 on the year while the Nationals fell to 60-58.
