Watch: One-armed Nick Newell eyes UFC after 14th victory

Nick Newell, a one-armed light-weight, submitted Sonny Luque at Legacy Preventing Alliance 35 in Houston on Friday and declared after the bout that his eyes are firmly affixed on the UFC.

The victory, sealed with a rear-bare choke 2:10 into the primary spherical, marked Newell’s return to MMA since his final battle in October 2015. He’s now 14-1 and on a 3-struggle win streak.

Right here’s Newell, a 31-yr-previous from Springfield, Mass., ending Luque.

“I’m among the best fighters on the planet and I belong within the UFC. That’s it. That’s remaining,” stated Newell (by way of MMA Preventing), who was born with no full left arm. “I gave you 14 explanation why I belong within the UFC. I’m the most effective fighters on the planet and I proved it 14 occasions.”

UFC president Dana White characterised preventing with one hand as “craziness,” and forward of Friday’s struggle, Newell informed TMZ Sports activities, “I’m loopy … and I am going to wipe out that (UFC light-weight) division. Gimme the chance, ship me over the papers, and it is gonna occur.”

With a report marred solely by a loss to the UFC’s present No. 6-ranked light-weight contender Justin Gaethje in a World Collection of Preventing match in July 2014, the sensation amongst many MMA observers is that Newell deserves a shot within the sport’s prime promotion.
