This year's Ascot Gold Cup has a prize fund of £500,000, with £283,550 to the winner.

It is a Group 1 Flat race run over a distance of two miles and four furlongs and is open to four-year-old's and up.

It is one of the most prestigious of the five feature races during Royal Ascot week. The other feature contests are the St James's Palace Stakes on day one, the Prince Of Wales's Stakes on day two, the Coronation Stakes on day four and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on the final day.

Last year's race produced one of the finishes of the meeting, with 5-1 shot Big Orange making virtually all the running in gutsy fashion.

He held off the late challenge of the favourite Order Of St George (5-6f) to win by a short-head, with Harbour Law (33-1) third.
