Giancarlo Stanton had the last laugh after a Red Sox fan launched his own home run ball at him.
The Yankees slugger blasted a solo homer over the wall at Fenway Park while visiting the Red Sox, where a fan in a black t-shirt snagged it. Instead of keeping it as a souvenir, the fan threw the ball back onto the field as Stanton was rounding second base, hitting him on his torso.

Stanton continued his run, but turned to smile and tip his hat at the fan. The game was halted as umpires and security tried to find the fan in the stands. According to the park, the man was ejected.
“That’s the idea when you’re an opposing fan, but I don’t think that’s what he meant to do,” Stanton said of the incident, via ESPN. “Either way, if I was looking up, I could’ve grabbed it easily.”
The Yankees got the final say in the game, winning 8-5 and helping the team earn the title of most home runs in a single season.
“It happens all the time at our stadium,” Stanton said. “So not too worried about it. Plus, that could be a special ball. We needed it anyway. I think he lost some money, possibly, on it.”
Stanton later poked some fun over the incident with his own mashup on Instagram.
